What to do when things go wrong?

The aim of this presentation is to identify recurring themes and how to avoid common pitfalls to ensure safer and more stress-free practice.

Description

A significant part of the role of a dentolegal adviser is being there for our member practitioners to assist and support ‘when things go wrong’.

The aim of this presentation is to identify recurring themes and how to avoid common pitfalls to ensure safer and more stress-free practice. If an unexpected outcome or complaint occurs, we will discuss how to manage it effectively to help ensure the best outcome is achieved for both patient and practitioner.

The intention is for the presentation to be interactive and there will be ample time set aside for Q&A at the end.

Learning objectives

  • Identify key considerations to help avoid incidents or complaints – including effective communication, what consent really means and more.
  • What to do if something happens? What to say to your patient, next steps and who can I talk to?
  • Afterwards – reflective learning, “will I get sued?”, stress management.
