This dynamic dinner event is designed for Dentists and Oral Health Therapists who want to elevate their clinical knowledge on the application of occlusal appliance therapy. Attendees will hear from two experienced clinicians from two different specialists to gain their insights on clinical applications of occlusal splints in dentistry. The clinical prescription of occlusal splints — from diagnosis to bite registration, fitting, and post-insertion adjustment protocols will be discussed. This course bridges scientific evidence with real-world best practice principles — giving you learnings you can apply the next day.

By the end of the evening, attendees will be able to:
- Comprehend the various clinical applications for occlusal splint therapy.
- Explain the fundamental principles that guide effective occlusal splint design and use.
- Evaluate the current scientific evidence supporting occlusal splint therapy for temporomandibular disorders and sleep bruxism.
- Perform accurate bite registrations, and confidently fit and adjust occlusal splints to ensure optimal comfort and function.
Presenters
A/Prof Ramesh Balasubramaniam is an oral medicine specialist. He has numerous peer reviewed publications, co-authored several chapters, and co-edited and co-authored two books notably “Contemporary Oral Medicine”. In addition, he serves as a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals. Ramesh is discipline lead in Oral Medicine at the University of Western Australia Dental School and is actively involved in teaching and research. Along with working in private practice he has public appointments at OHCWA and PCH.
Dr Graham Carmichael is a Board registered Prosthodontist and faculty member of the Brånemark Center in West Perth. He obtained a BDSc from the University of Western Australia and has a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics from the University of Sydney.
Dr Carmichael is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a consultant prosthodontist at Perth Children’s Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. He lectures nationally and internationally on all aspects of Prosthodontics.
