Suturing is an important aspect of any dental surgical procedure
Description
Suturing is an important aspect of any dental surgical procedure where there is either cutting or injury to the soft tissue in the oral cavity. Proper placement of sutures can help in faster and proper healing of the tissues involved. It is very important that the selection of the correct type of suturing technique and suture material is used.
This course will cover practical in principles of oral surgery, including:
•Armamentarium
• Tissue Handling – including attached gingiva, alveolar mucosa and tongue
• Suturing – different types of suturing techniques including interrupted, continuous and mattress suture
- choosing the correct suture

To be confident in suturing different tissues
The hands-on component will be conducted using pig jaws, trotters and tongues and silicone.
Presenters
Dr Lee Kaing is a dual-qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. She works in a private practice, and is a Consultant Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital and teaches medical students and is involved in training the next generation of oral maxillofacial surgeons.
Dr Khadembaschi completed his dental degree at UWA. After working for six years in private practice in Western Australia and Tasmania he moved to Queensland to studying medicine. He is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery trainee in the WA program, currently posted at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
